Briefly describe how this program has changed you both professionally and personally?
This experience has been the most rewarding opportunity thus far in my life. I have been able to recognize so much about myself, and have grown in ways that words cannot even describe. About to be turning 25 within a matter of days, I was blessed with a chance to improve myself so drastically. I have really discovered who I am as an individual, and who I have the desire to become. I have completely "grown up" in this program, and hope that other young adults have this same opportunity as I have.
What would you like others to understand about Envision U and the Are You Up Challenge?
This is more than just a search to find the best salesperson. Some people are mistaken when they hear about the program I am involved with, and they think it's more or less a "silly reality show." I want people to understand how fulfilling this program has been to me, and how rewarding the experience is. I have been able to really find true understanding of myself, both the good things and the bad things. And I have been given incredible training and tools to help mold those negative things out of my life and reshape myself into a person I want to be, versus the person that I have been conditioned to be. I think the community needs to understand the impact this program has had on my life. It may be that I have taken more from this than some of the other contestants, but I want everyone to still understand how incredible it can be for anyone to experience the things we have. If you just put everything you can into something as powerful as this program and challenge has been, you can experience as much personal success as I have. This is something everyone should have the opportunity to experience, and I hope that one day everyone will.
What is the single most valuable piece of information that you have gained from your participation in the Challenge?
I've gained true confidence. When I first walked into the audition, I was totally faking my confidence level. And I think Rod clearly identified with me on that, after our last taping when we were eating at PF Changs. Rod said, "Did anyone else notice how Sarah's walk has changed? She walks straight up and tall now, and I remember when she used to walk less confidentally." That is so true; my first step into this show I was hoping of finding some fun and happiness, but I never expected it to be as fullfilling as it has been. Even being unemployed right this moment, as I write this I feel better about myself than I did back in May. It is amazing the amount of confidence I have now, and the strength that I have gotten because of that. Thank you so much!
What would you tell someone who is considering signing up for the next iteration of Are You Up?
Go for it! Many people I know have been incredibly interested after watching my "transformation" throughout the program. I would advise anyone interested to only apply and try out if they honestly think they can put everything they have into this. It's not a joke. It's not a silly reality show. It's a show giving you an opportunity to undo all those things about yourself that you don't really like, and grow new traits and habits that will help you to become the person you are meant to be. I have learned in a few short months what it takes people their entire lives to learn. And there is nothing in the world that can beat the knowledge that I have gained. To work with Rod Hairston, and Roger Love, and the many other faces I have been privelaged to get to know, is the most valuable education I have had in my life. I would recommend this program to anyone who wishes to have a better understanding of life.
